The ArBolivia Project provides multiple opportunities for individuals and organisations to contribute towards solutions to climate change and poverty

Our SDG Impacts

In line with Bolivian government policy, our project is seeking to achieve a much broader range of social and environmental impacts than merely “carbon offsetting”.  As such, the project offers the highest quality of certification of its SDG impacts under both the Gold Standard and Plan Vivo.   We therefore seek partners, who want more than just cheap carbon offsets, are prepared to make finance available for  additional activities and want to work with us towards achieving the broader Sustainable Development Goals.

Farm & Non-Timber Forest Products

We support around 900 farmer families by improving farm practices and hence the quality and quantity of their produce and by working to develop added value through the supply chain. We are constantly looking for new buyers and distribution partners for a wide range of crops, such as cocoa, coffee, black beans and a range of tropcal fruits. We also need partners to help us develop new markets for exotic non-timber forest products such as nuts (almendra de la Chiquitania), tonka beans and certified seeds.

Our Wood

Although the revenues for our additional SDG impacts is vital to our cashflow over the early years until our trees mature, it is important to realise that our main purpose is to establish a viable and permanent, community-based timber enterprise.

We are pioneering the growing of a wide range of native tree species (and also some teak) and developing new markets for these unique woods, which will take decades rather than just years.

Clean Biomass Fuels / Biochar

As part of our ongoing plantation management programme, we produce large quantities of biomass, which cannot be converted into merchantable timber. We are working with a local company, EcoK international to processs this waste into a range of clean biomass fuel products that help to reduce the use of non-renewable fossil fuels. We are pioneering a more efficient process for charcoal production and promoting the use of biochar as an organic soil enhancer.

621,000

Tonnes Carbon

We estimate that the project will sequester 621,000 tonnes of carbon over its lifetime, equal to the annual carbon footprint of 30,000 UK households

127

$million Revenues

Projected timber revenues total $127 million over the full project term if we can expand the area under commercial management to 2693 hectares.

89,000

$ Per Farmer

Each Bolivian farmer will receive a projected $89,000 over the lifetime of the project - enough to make a big difference to their lives and that of their families

1430

Hectares Trees

The project works with 10 native hardwood tree species distributed amongst 1430 hectares of commercial plantations
